Geocell

Geocell, or Geocellular structure, is a material made by ultrasonically or thermally welding strips of HDPE or PE alloy at specific intervals. When panels are stretched open, they form a cellular structure. These cells can act like small pots that can be filled with material in slope applications.

The working principle of Geocell is to create a surface resistant to erosion from rain and wind when applied over slopes. It prevents the underlying soil from washing away, reduces water flow velocity, and disrupts the transporting force of water. When vegetation is established, the soil, geocell, and plants together form a composite resistance layer.

Geocell Application and Usage Areas:

• Anchored to the ground on properly prepared slopes using metal or polymer stakes. Anchored trenches help secure the fill material on the slope.
• Geocell panels are connected using interlocking plastic strips or stapling materials. If geomembranes or other materials under the geocell could be damaged by anchoring stakes, the panels can be installed using ropes and fixing elements between the top and bottom anchoring trenches.
• Usually applied over woven or non-woven geotextiles to prevent soil loss from the base.
